It seems like every day a new location based service climbs out to see light. We have a plethora of services out there. But recently a new one has caught my eye. Gowalla takes location to a different level. Gowalla allows you to check into a location that you are at, or create one if it doesn't exist yet. After you have created that location you can drop an item to become a founder or if you are just checking into it you can trade items or drop one off. I don't really think of it as a game, though they may make it more like one in the future. I think the true fun comes in when you complete the tasks that Gowalla has to offer you and collecting pins. Just simple things can make it fun. If you create a several locations you get a pin. There are a ton of different tasks that you can do. They would rank up there as virtual scavenger hunts to me.
Gowalla also offers and iPhone app for ease of use when going around with more to come in the future. I know they are working on an Android application and they want more people to be able to participate from any phone. You also have the ability to the share your location with your twitter and facebook account. I think the killer feature for this really is the ease of use though. You don't need to know the address of your location like you do with FourSquare. Gowalla uses the location coordinates from your phone for you to add your location if it is a new add. It just works.
