Personal Branding Blog
Dan Schawbel's Personal Branding Blog

Today, as I was posting some tweets on my @talentevolution Twitter account, I came across a tweet from Dan Schawbel, someone whom I have been following for sometime on Twitter. I find his personal branding expertise very valuable in building my own brand.

Dan's tweet is an example, as how one might go about building a personal brand as a subject matter expert in a given field. Dan, simply asked his followers to send in the questions they have about his area of expertise, Personal Branding.

Of course, I had to submit one on behalf of the readers of this column. Mine is the second question.

"When thinking about a domain name for personal branding what factors should a job seeker consider?". I hope you find his answer helpful.

Here is the take away. When you consider activities that make you stand out to an employer using social media tools like video, it gives you the opportunity to showcase your expertise and build your brand as a subject matter expert. It also adds some authenticity and personality that is not present when just reading your resume.

There are some that advocate using a tool that produces a video resume. Although this also a good use of video, I prefer to recommend using video to talk about your passion in the area of your expertise. Let the viewer see that you are passionate about your field and allow them a glimpes into your world.

The Q&A approach used by Dan is a good way to get your feet wet using social media. You might feel a lot more comfortable using the Q&A method to talk about your area of expertise. YouTube is, of course, a great platform in which to build a good video library that you can incorporate into your job search toolkit to allow prespective employers the opportunity to hear from you while they are reviewing your resume.

Here is Dan's video, it's approximately 6 minutes long. Good questions and even better answers about personal branding.
