The Independent is really staying true to its name this Spring. The beginning of the year's shows are shaping up nicely and to my delight, one of my favorite British hip-hop/electronica/whatever they feel like playing music geniuses - Nightmares on Wax will be stopping by The Independent February 4th. Advance tickets are only $15.
Hailing from one of the most artistic spots in the UK (Leeds), Nightmares on Wax bumps everything from electronica to just raw hip-hop beats to downtempo and acid house music. Their M.O. usually looks a little like this: ridiculously chill, but still experimental beat fused with some genre that probably shouldn't be there and a splash of lyrics or repeating chorus split into the track - sounds wrong, but it is oh so right. They remind me a lot of a more urban/experimental version of Ratatat except they really stick to their hip-hop roots.
Their latest album Thought So... just dropped in August (cover of album to the right). If you get a chance to see these guys, I highly recommend it, they're hard to track down and they don't tour too terribly often in the states. Get on the good hip-hop bandwagon while it's hot.
Check them out. Let me know what you think. Peace.
