Growing up as a kid, my mom and I would make cut-out sugar cookies for every holiday you can think of. With the holiday season officially upon us, my thoughts turn to baking so I share my mother's best cut-out sugar cookie recipe.
1 cup powdered sugar
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. salt
1 cup margarine or butter-flavored Crisco (Butter tends to make these cookies too soft and they can burn. Use a half-and-half mix if you insist on butter. The Crisco is the best!)
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract
Sift the dry ingredients together and cut in the Crisco or margarine until pie crust consistency. Add the remaining ingredients and knead slightly. Roll and cut. (Use powdered sugar instead of flour to roll out.)
Bake at 325 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
