One of the best new dining spots in Salt Lake City is Meditrina. Not only does this tapas and wine bar offer fantastic local fare and a great wine selection, owners Amy and Jen serve up a bit of humor here as well.

Mondays are typically a slow day for restaurants and the LDS Church's Family Home Evening takes its toll even further. So for those of you looking for something to do on Mondays as you begin another week at work, I share with you "Meditrina Mondays". Each Monday, Meditrina serves nicely balanced $3 sangria all day (don't forget they can't serve until noon) out on the patio under the trees or in the sassy interior. Try one of their tempting salads such as the Grilled Granny Smiths or chicken satay or the fresh Italian sandwich. You can’t go wrong with any of the menu choices really. The shrimp Po' Boy sandwich is amazing (even thought we are miles from the sea) and the Fresh Italian Sandwich is made with the highest quality ingredients purchased from local purveyors.

If you can't make it out for lunch on Mondays, happy hour runs from 5:30 to 6:30 pm and they have a $4 small plates menu on Mondays too. (The patatas bravas are the best ever.)

No matter what day you visit, Amy (owner, server, hospitality diva) is knowledgeable, friendly and approachable with any questions you might have about the menu, events going on or whatever else is on your mind. Jen (chef/owner) offers delightful selections that are artfully presented and taste as good as they look.

The wine list also offers a good selection of accessible reds and whites that are a bit off the beaten path. I was delighted to see a Snoqualmie Sauvignon Blanc that I just tried for the first time at the Vintage Walla Walla Wine Festival on the list. The wine list is divided into offerings by $6-$9 per glass or $27 to $40 per bottle so you can try something new without breaking the bank.

Located just west of the Spring Mobile Ballpark where Mama's Southern Plantation (1394 S. West Temple) used to be, Meditrina is open for lunch and dinner as well as Sunday brunch.
