We have learned how flirting and foreplay outside of the bedroom (tip 10), making time to date (tip 9), and learning to disagree instead of fighting in anger (tip 8) can keep your relationship sexy and hot. Now it is time for tip number 7…

Pet names and secret codes

Studies have shown that pet names can create longevity in relationships. They create a special meaning that only the two of you share and regardless of the name it strengthens your bond. Secret codes act in the same way as pet names. These can be a secret language you both use to keep others or your kids from understanding you, a signal you both use to save each other from uncomfortable social situations, or simply a couple of squeezes that have a secret hidden meaning only you two understand. For example; my fiancé and I simply squeeze each other’s hand three times and we both know this signifies the statement ‘I love you’. It’s special and unique and something no one else does (at least that we know of).

Your daily dose assignment is to look at your relationship and determine if you use pet names or secret codes. If you do, are they specialized to your relationship? If they are you are a step ahead. If they are not, you will want to look into starting a new relationship tradition by creating your own pet names and if you like secret codes. Here are some tips in making this sexy and hot tip the best you can.

• Don’t use a name that is insulting to your partner. T.V. does this for laughs like on ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ Deb calls her husband idiot or on “King of Queens” Carrie calls Doug fatty. These types of pet names do not do anything to help your relationship get hot and sexy. As a matter of fact, it can actually hurt the other person’s self esteem (whether they tell you or not).

• Avoid using sickening sweet pet names like, ‘cuddle monkey’ or ‘pookie bear’ unless you both are comfortable with these names. If you are not you need to speak up. I once tried to call my fiancé ‘cuddle monkey’ and he hated it saying “I was taking away his masculinity.” Needless to say I respected him for this and started calling him ‘my prince’ (short for prince charming).

• Avoid using a pet name you used with an ex. That was your special name with your ex; not your current relationships. This can also mix up your feelings and if your partner ever found out he/she could be hurt by this.

• Find something unique for your partner. Avoid common names like honey, dear, sweetie, baby unless it truly has a special meeting for both of you.

Using pet names and secret codes can help spice things up outside of the bedroom and even in intimate settings. It connects people intimately and creates a special bond with each of. If you have some other suggestions on this topic please feel free to comment below.
