Is chocolate an aphrodisiac or not, try some of these romantic uses for chocolate with your partner this week and you decide. Chocolate has been proclaimed an aphrodisiac for over 1500 years. It was the Mayans and the Aztecs that first discovered the affects of chocolate as an aphrodisiac. According to the FDA and aphrodisiac is something that promoters claim can arouse or increase sexual desire or libido.

Chocolate has two ingredients that science has proven to be mood lifters; phenylethylamin and serotonin. Both of these substances are produced naturally in our own bodies when we are happy or when we are experiencing love, lust or passion. Our mood changes, our blood pressure rises, our heart rates increase, and we are feeling very good – a feeling close to euphoria which is associated with the feelings of love.

So when you eat chocolate you have the same effect which is one of the arguments on the continued debate on whether or not chocolate is an aphrodisiac. Another argument against chocolate being an aphrodisiac is that it doesn’t have the same affect on men as it does in women. Women are more responsive to the effects these chemicals have on the body, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have some effects. Here are some relationship spice up tips for using chocolate with your partner this week.

Tips:

• Try new ideas in the bedroom with chocolate to add some spice to your relationship. One popular idea is to follow the trendy new restaurants in New York. Put on a bathing suit and cover your bathing suit with chocolate treats. When your partner gets home he/she will need to eat the chocolate to find you. If he/she is a generous lover they will share and you will both be ready for some action when you are finished.

• Try adding some cayenne pepper to your chocolate for a great spicy kick. Eat it alone or with your partner.

• Studies show that eating chocolate and smooching can help prevent cavities. The tannins in chocolate reduce the plaque that causes cavities and periodontal disease. The kissing stimulates saliva flow and helps to wash out the mouth.

• Try having a picnic in your living room, on the roof top, or outside with chocolate fondue. Be creative in the foods you choose to dip into the chocolate sauce and make sure you only use your hands, no utensils allowed.

Consumers average over 7 billion dollars a year in chocolate sales in the United States alone. The American people eat 2.8 billion pounds of chocolate annually which equates to 12 pounds per person per year. Regardless of the endless dispute on whether or not chocolate is an aphrodisiac there is no sign that chocolate sales will go down in the future. So in honor of chocolate day, enjoy your intimate chocolate get together with your spouse this week and decide for yourself if chocolate is an aphrodisiac for you.
