I was reading my email and despite myself I found myself reading about love spells. For those of you that don't know me; I believe in herbal magic, energy, and things that are not easily explained. I also believe in a higher power (God) and Karma. That being the case; I don't believe that 'love spells' are good things.

The first question you should ask is do they work? A spell works on a couple of fronts; energy, power of suggestion, and your senses and emotions. We are all made up of energy (science has proven this) and everything we do produces energy. Karma plays into this concept. The energy you send out into the universe comes back like a boomerang (three times if good and tenfold if bad). When you do a spell and use this to change persons choice (free will) you are sending out negative energy. But there are those who think that what they want is what that other person truly wants they just need a little boost. If that is the case; ask him out, take him for coffee, be brazen and kiss him, do anything BUT cast a love spell that is likely to come back ten fold and haunt you and your relationship.

The mind is a powerful thing. It can aid you in getting better faster when you are sick, it can help you store your pain and not necessarily forget but feel better. You mind can be persuaded by you to overcome so many obstacles that would wouldn't have met had you not set your mind to it. Your mind can also be controlled by others. Think of a hypnotist, they convince you to bark like a dog with a snap of someone's fingers. Think of low self esteem; generally this is brought on by you believing what others negatively think of you. Not sold? How about those subliminal messages on your television and radio that convince you to go out and buy that burger and fries when you know you shouldn't. Spells work on the power of suggestion.

There is power in plants and herbs as much as there is power in pharmaceutical or illegal drugs. Herbs are made of chemicals that work on your body's chemicals. A popular result of a plant used to change your body chemistry is the belief that chocolate is an aphrodisac. Some people swear by the affects of chocolate and others perfer oysters as an aphrodisac. A good love spell will include a concotion that a person is suppose to drink, which increase their desires and may result in more lust than love, but it will make a connection between two people.

There is also power in your senses. You hear a song that reminds you of a moment. You smell chocolate cookies and you think of a memory of coming home t home baked cookies that mom made. Some love potions are made up of scents that you wear that are supposed to attract the object of your desire.

Love spells can be powerful and can also be dangerous. Many who believe in Karma will tell you they would not mess with love spells for fear of what they get back. But how about for those of you that don't believe in Karma? Perhaps the knowledge that what you have with your significant other is enough to persuade you from trying a love potion on the object of your desires. The knowledge that they will never truly love you because it was a relationship built from magic and not from their own feelings. Bending someone to your will, regardless of the intent, is never a good thing.
