Movie Review for date night - 'Couple's Retreat'
Couple’s Retreat was a fun, feel good movie with moderate laughs and a decent story line. The story was about four couple’s who have been friends for a while. Each couple dealing with their own problems; infertility and the stresses that go along with attempting to get pregnant but not able to, getting married early and feeling like they were missing out on something, another couple was dealing with raising a great child and staying together until that child turns 18 (add in the small fact that they are both cheating on each other), and another couple that seem happy but the wife is feeling like her husband is shutting her out and he makes her feel like she isn’t as important as he is.
The movie starts out slow but picks up momentum as each of the couple’s stories unravel. The couple trying to get pregnant are on the verge of getting a divorce. They go to their friend’s and ask them to join them on a couple’s retreat – fun in the sun on a island paradise sprinkled with a little counseling called couple ‘skill building’. It takes a little work from Jason Bateman’s character and Vince Vaughn’s character's boys but they are convinced to go along.
When they get there the couple’s are forced into counseling sessions and couple activities. As a little stress gets applied into these marriages; the problems start to come out. The movie is a feel good comedy that can make for a good date night. But the hype that led up to the release this weekend made my fiancé and I feel a little disappointed. I think we were looking for more laughs and instead got more life lessons.
If you are looking for a feel good date movie this is the show to watch but don’t go expecting to laugh the entire film through like we did in the ‘Proposal’. If you can wait until the movie hits video you may enjoy it more. I rate this movie a 3.5 on the movie date scale. Have you seen the show? Let us know your thoughts on this movie.
