Looking for a new place to relax and enjoy a good cup of coffee? Follow Shore Drive to Java Cup Café in Ocean View. This quiet little café is a hidden gem located just beyond Gate 1 of Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek.

Stop by for an omelet sandwich in the morning and come back in the afternoon for a good cup of coffee and enjoy the peace and quiet. The café opens as early at 7 a.m. and stays open until 4 p.m. with extended hours on Fridays. You will be delighted with local entertainment on Friday evenings as performers showcase their talent. Recent performers range from musicians to comedians. A poetry reading night and game night are also in the works so be sure to sign up for the email list for more details.

The Java Cup Café will quickly become one of your favorite places to meet friends and have a good time. Rae Mack, the proprietor, is a spunky woman who is sure to make you laugh as she recounts the origin of the unique blend used in their iced coffees. She will tell you all about her experiences sky diving and traveling to California where she fell in love with coffee. The founding idea behind opening Java Cup café was to bring the San Francisco experience to Virginia Beach and Mrs. Mack has succeeded in doing so.

At Java Cup Café you will find “true world coffee,” says Mrs. Mack; “we follow traditional recipes and serve coffee from around the world including Turkish and Vietnamese blends”. They also serve Ukrainian style tea, a unique offering for this area. If you enjoy a good cup of tea and have yet to experience this style, this is the place to try it for the first time.

All orders are made fresh exactly as the customer requests. Have a ‘real’ macchiato for a change or try one of the international blended coffees in a French coffee press. You will learn quickly that Java Cup Café is not your typical ‘cookie cutter’ coffee shop. This most certainly is not a stuffy, busy or fast paced coffee shop. Sure you can grab a quick coffee on your way to work but you are more likely to find yourself lounging on one of their sofas in the art covered room or sitting under the shade on the back patio. Bring your friends, a good book or even your computer to do a little work while you sip on a refreshing beverage.

Try one of the made-to-order wraps or flat bread sandwiches while you are there; couple it with an Italian soda and you will be thankful you chose to have lunch at Java Cup Café. The café also received the silver award for best smoothies in Virginia Beach by The Virginia Pilot so you will want to try one on the following visit.

There is such a vast variety of drink choices that you will be coming back time and time again, always trying something new.
