Steve McNair’s 4th of July death has shocked the community of Nashville, Tennessee. Not only did McNair help usher in professional football to Nashville, but he became a permanent fixture with the locals. His work with charities and youth programs captured the hearts of the community as year after year he found ways to serve.
McNair played eleven seasons with the Tennessee Titans leading them to the Super Bowl in 1999. He completed 174 touchdowns and often played with a long list of injures. His playing history includes a shared MVP (McNair and Manning) in 2003. With the many accolades that he received he will be well remembered for his foundation. McNair showed early in his career that extending a helping hand was part of who he was. According to the official Steve McNair website he had donated $30,000 to boys and girls club of Nashville. Empowering the youth was a dream he put his muscle behind. The tragedy has left the city waiting to hear all the whys and wherefores, who could have stolen Steve McNair’s life. Law enforcement has yet to release details of the death or any leads or suspects.
Is anyone else raising an eyebrow to the recent deaths of high profile people so close together? The deaths of Michael Jackson, Billy Mays, and Farrah Fawcett have been particularly tragic, still in the prime of their lives with so much left to contribute. It begs the question do you have a relationship with Jesus Christ, the Savior.
John 3:16-21 NIV
Jesus explains to Nicodemus how to get eternal life,
“For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”
