When Sarah Palin is involved in a situation, it is anything but traditional, and an FBI investigation is no exception. For the mass majority of public citizens, the FBI would not make a public announcement whether or not ‘Joe Schmo', or 'Joe the Plumber’ were under federal investigation, but things are different when it comes to Sarah Palin. The FBI has taken the non-traditional approach of remaining quiet on Internet rumors and speculation regarding ‘Palingate” or ‘Housegate’ and has made the announcement that Sarah Palin is not under FBI investigation.
According to an FBI spokesperson, Eric Gonzalez, “We are not investigating her. Normally we don't confirm or deny those kind of allegations out there, but by not doing so it just casts her in a very bad light. There is just no truth to those rumors out there in the blogosphere."
Eric Gonzalez stated that "normally they don’t confirm or deny allegations that a federal investigation is underway", but to ensure that Sarah Palin is kept in a ‘positive’ light; they needed to speak up.
Allegations surfaced over the weekend that Sarah Palin would not be seeking re-election and would be vacating her gubernatorial duties at the end of July due to pending federal charges of embezzlement. Sarah Palin fired back at those who promoted this allegation as fact through a four-page letter written by her attorney, Thomas Van Flein. The letter threatens legal actions against media, press, bloggers, and one Huffington Post blogger and radio talk show host, Shannyn Moore for spreading the allegations as fact across the Internet. In the letter, Thomas Van Flein verifies that he spoke with the FBI concerning any pending charges against the governor of Alaska; he stated there wasn’t any.
Controversy exists on the liberal side as to whether or not blogger Shannyn Moore was promoting a rumor as ‘fact’ when she stated on MSNBC that there were ‘rumors’ of a potential Iceberg Scandal. Conservatives have been left bewildered and many feel that they haven’t heard an in-depth explanation of why the governor is vacating. Over the weekend, Sarah Palin has been shedding light on her decision through her Facebook fan page and Twitter account. Many speculate that her leaving office and not seeking re-election is due to her plans to seek office in 2012.
In an interview with Runners World, she was asked the question:
What about in a race? Could you beat the president?
To that, Sarah Palin answered:
I betcha I'd have more endurance. My one claim to fame in my own little internal running circle is a sub-four marathon. It wasn't necessarily a good running time, but it proves I have the endurance within me to at least gut it out and that is something. If you ever talk to my old coaches, they'd tell you, too. What I lacked in physical strength or skill I made up for in determination and endurance. So if it were a long race that required a lot of endurance, I'd win.
In light of recent events and speculation on Governor Palin’s plans to run in the 2012 election, many are wondering if Sarah Palin was speaking figuratively or literally.
