Governors and lovers don’t mix, add in a few thousand tax payer dollars to fund illicit meetings and trips and you have grounds for impeachment. Personal problems are plenty; everyone has their fair share. We don’t expect our leaders to let their personal problems impact their work. Everyone knows that, don’t they? Business and personal lives must be kept separate. Never bring your work home with you, and never let your personal problems send you half way across the continent while the tax payer foots the bill.
This is just what Mark Sanford, the Governor of South Carolina caught in the midst of a political scandal for sailing around Argentina with his lover, had admitted to doing.
"The purpose of this trip was an entirely professional and appropriate business development trip," Mr. Sanford said in his statement about the 2008 encounter in Buenos Aires. "I made a mistake while I was there in meeting with the woman who I was unfaithful to my wife with." Mark Sanford has been doing a lot of apologizing lately, plenty of admitting, and now plans on repaying approximately $8,000 that he used for the 2008 trip, according to a report by the South Carolinian paper, The State

Many are calling for Governor Sanford’s resignation, while Sanford has expressed he intends on remaining Governor. There is also the possibility that the S.C. Attorney General, Henry McMaster will conduct a formal investigation for misconduct.
