Today has been devastating for both the film and music industry. The deaths of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson have stunned fans worldwide. Shortly after the announcement came, verifying that Michael Jackson died, Twitter became overrun with reports that Jeff Goldblum died as well.  The reports regarding Jeff Goldblum are false.  It is an Internet hoax. TMZ has been the first to break the news on these shocking celebrity deaths all day. The death of Farrah Fawcett had been alleged since late June 24,2009 when it was rumored that a priest had arrived at her hospital room to perform a last rites ceremony. Ryan O’Neal, Fawcett’s long time partner, had reportedly announced that he and Fawcett were soon to wed. Reports state that didn’t happen: Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal did not get married.

While the nation mourned the loss of one of the original Charlie’s Angels, the news slowly shifted to reports that Michael Jackson had suffered cardiac arrest and had been rushed to an  L.A. hospital. His family members quickly gathered by his side, and the reports stated that Michael Jackson had slipped into a coma. Before long, TMZ, the L.A. Times and CNN confirmed that Michael Jackson had indeed died.

The impact that these two icons have had on American pop culture is undeniable. Farrah Fawcett was the 70’s pin up girl. Her infamous “Farrah Fawcett poster” adorned the rooms of teen boys across the nation. She seemed to be another sex pot until she starred in the film, “The Burning Bed” where she brought the topic of domestic violence to the forefront. For the first time, people talked about domestic abuse, they looked for signs of it in their friends, and they weren’t afraid to seek help. That role revealed a side to Farrah Fawcett that had been revealed under long locks of flowy red hair and a poster of a beautiful woman in a red bathing suit. Farrah was more than an iconic sex symbol, she was an advocated for women nationwide.

Michael Jackson was an icon in his own right, and on a much wider scale. Though scandal, child molestation allegations, and financial ruin followed him during his final days, no one can deny the impact his music had on American culture. Michael Jackson was one of the earliest cross over artists that reached incredible success. His career soared to heights unfathomable, and plummeted to depths that no one would ever dare go willingly. The circumstances surrounding his death will be the subject of investigation for many months, and possibly years to come. Speculation indicates that prescription drug use might have played a role. An autopsy will be performed on Michael Jackson, only then will the truth be known.

Internet rumors have abounded since the announcement of Michael Jackson’s death that Jeff Goldblum fell to his death while filming a movie. Reports state that this is just a rumor. Jeff Goldblum is alive and well.
