The debate between Sarah Palin and David Letterman keeps heating up and today the unveiling of a new website, Fire David Letterman (firedavidletterman.com) takes the fight to a new level. According to the website, Fire David Letterman, a rally is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 4:30 Eastern Time at the Ed Sullivan Theater, located at 1697 Broadway, New York New York. There is a Facebook group entitled Fire David Letterman Rally, with the following mission statement; “CBS should fire David Letterman, Just like they fired Don Imus.” Those planning on attending the rally are encouraged to join the group.

Instruction for those attending the rally are provided at the Facebook group, and it is recommended that they bring PG rated signs, keeping the signs free from obscenities. The rally is scheduled for two hours, between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Eastern time.

Beginning with comments made by David Letterman on his “Top Ten List” when the Alaskan governor was visiting New York, David Letterman began by referring to Sarah Palin’s appearance as “slutty”, however, the debate evolved into a battle between the two when Letterman referred to one of Palin’s daughter’s as getting “knocked up by Alex Rodriguez.” Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter, Willow, was traveling with her and many believe the inference was towards Willow and not 18-year-old Bristol.

Some feel that debating who was the topic of the insult, 14 year old Willow or 18 year old Bristol is beside the point, joking about a young woman being raped isn’t funny. Others argue that it is only humor, crude humor at best, but humor nonetheless. David Letterman himself, in a pseudo apology referred to his comments as crude, but denied that he thinks statutory rape is anything to joke about, an allegation made by Sarah Palin.

Whether the publicity will ultimately hurt or advance Letterman's ratings have yet to be seen.  Though there is truth that there is no such thing as bad publicity, the Palin feud might be what Letterman needs to see an increase in ratings.  At a time where David Letterman was being overshadowed by Conan O'Brien's debut as the new Tonight Show host, there is a possibility that the Palin feud will only advance and increase his viewership.  Hey, we know what happened when SNL tackled Palin: they saw their best ratings in over a decade.
