David Letterman made extremely controversial statements regarding Sarah Palin and her one of her daughters. David Letterman states that his jokes were referring to Palin's 18 year old daughter, Bristol. Palin contends that the jokes were in reference to her underage, 14 year old daughter, Willow. The debate began with Letterman's infamous, Top Ten list that focused on Palin's recent visit to New York City. Letterman referred to Palin as a slut, and that her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez, causing tempers to flare and has sparked a debate pitting Republicans against Democrats once again. In an E-Mail statement released by Sarah Palin she responds by saying,
“Laughter incited by sexually perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us some Hollywood/N.Y. entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands — that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone's daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others.”
Sarah Palin has demanded that Letterman apologize to all women, and David Letterman has said that his jokes were in poor taste, but that he doesn't advocate statutory rape. Here are the videos that started the controversial fight, and commentaries as Palin vs Letterman continues to ensue. The debate really heats up in the second video between MSNBCs Contessa Brewer and John Ziegler. The third video in the player below, shows Matt Lauer interviewing Sarah Palin on the Today Show, entitled, "Did David Letterman cross the Line?" The fourth video in the player is where David Letterman apologizes.
