Tonight, the DC Sniper, John Allen Muhammad was executed by lethal injection. Beginning at 9:06 p.m. E.T., the Beltway Sniper John Allen Muhammad was pronounced dead at 9:11 p.m. Refusing to make a final statement, spokesperson for the prison Larry Traylor described Muhammad as being emotionless.
John Allen Muhammad was convicted of capital murder in 2003. There were 16 shootings that occurred between September 5 and October 22, 2002 throughout Maryland, Alabama, Louisiana, Washington DC, and Virginia. Ten people died, the other six were seriously wounded.
John Allen Muhammad was born on Dec. 31, 1960 to Ernest Edward Williams and Eva Ferris, his mother died when he was three years old. He graduated from high school in 1978 and enlisted in the Louisiana National Guard, where he remained from 1978 until 1985. His troubles appeared early as in 1982 he was court martialed for disobeying orders from a non commission officer.
In 1981, John Allen Muhammad married and had a son. In August 1983, he was in trouble again after he struck a non-commissioned officer in the head. He was released from the National Guard at age 25 and then enlisted in the regular Army. While in the Army, John Allen Muhammad was a qualified expert with the M-16. He divorced his first wife and married his second wife Mildred in 1988.
In 1990, at the age of 29, John Allen Muhammad served in the Persian Gulf War. He was honorably discharged on the condition of anonymity on April 26, 1994. In 1995, he was arrested twice for driving with a suspended license. He and his second wife separated in September 1999, they filed for divorce in December 1999. In 1999, John Allen Muhammad met Boyd Lee Malvo, he was 14 years old.
In February 2000, Mildred petitioned the court for a temporary restraining order against Muhammad. On March 27, 2000, John Allen Muhammad kidnapped his three children and took them to Antigua. It was October 2, 2002 when the first of a series of attacks that would terrorize civilians from Maryland and Virginia to Washington D.C. occurred.
