Whether you are coming to Charlotte for a short visit, planning to relocate, or just never had the opportunity to see the city through the eyes of a local, knowing the personalities of the area neighborhoods will help you enjoy everything Charlotte has to offer.

This article will give you the basic run down of the Queen Cities’ various neighborhoods. Then over the next few weeks I will focus on each neighborhood and provide the highlights, the history, the trends and the hidden gems.

Here’s a look at the many faces of Charlotte.

Uptown/Center City: Home to the Carolina Panthers and Bobcats, this hub of activity combines the newest hotspots with some of Charlotte’s most historic landmarks.

Dilworth/Midtown/Myers Park/ Eastover/ SouthEnd: Just a short drive from Uptown these neighborhoods hold some of the city’s oldest homes. Thanks to redevelopment efforts you will also find national chains, cafes, pubs, bistros, and local entertainment.

South Charlotte/Ballentayne: The premier address for businesses and residences alike, offering an array of upscale shopping and dining.

West Side: Built around the bustling Charlotte Douglas International Airport, this area is home to the Regional Farmers Market, public parks, water parks, and golf courses. Diners can find a vast selection of quick bite restaurants.

NoDa/Plaza-Midwood: Charlotte’s most eclectic collection of activities and personalities can be found within this artistic community clustered around the intersection of North Davidson and 36th Street.

University City/North Charlotte: Home to UNC Charlotte this suburban area offers an expanse of shopping, sports, and casual, family friendly entertainment.

East Side/Matthews/Mint Hill: Another suburban outcropping clustered around quaint small town settings, offering main street atmosphere. The annual events and entertainment are great for those wanting a more relaxed experience.
