Just 27 Days until the opening of Who Killed Santa?
Frosty the Snowman is one of four classic holiday characters depicted in Santa Slayers Inc. production of Who Killed Santa? It opens December 4th at the Bay View Brew Haus. This sordidly funny and brazen comedy involves a Christmas party gone ridiculously bad. Santa is murdered and Frosty the Snowman is one of the prime suspects. Milwaukee Theatre Examiner recently caught up with the elite winter icon to hear his thoughts on the approaching show and find out what he’s been up to.
Frosty the Snowman: Happy Birthday!
Milwaukee Theatre Examiner: Thanks, but it’s not my birthday.
FS: Sorry. It’s just a habit I have.
MTE: So...
FS: Happy Birthday!
MTE: So, are–
FS: Happy Birthday– Okay, I’ll stop now. I’m stopping.
MTE: Yeah. So, how are you?
FS: I’m great. Just great. Winter’s coming up soon. And that’s my busiest and most enjoyable time of the year. I’m really very happy.
MTE: What did you do this past summer?
FS: I spent some time in Tibet.
MTE: What were you doing there?
FS: Looking for, y’know, him.
MTE: Him? Him who?
FS: The Abominable.
MTE: Oh. You mean The Abominable Sn–
FS: Yes!
MTE: Wait a minute. Are you two related somehow?
FS: We’re distant cousins.
MTE: Wow. I didn’t know that.
FS: Yeah, but he doesn’t like people. He thinks they just want to capture him and cut him up and find out if he’s some kind of missing link.
MTE: Well, that’s true. We do.
FS: Yeah, well, I guess he’s right for staying hidden then.
MTE: How do you feel about the up coming theatrical production of Who Killed Santa? Did you see last year’s show?
FS: I’m very excited about it. There’s new songs. Four different possible endings. I hear it’s a great show. Very funny. I didn’t see it last year but I heard really good things.
MTE: Why not?
FS: I was going to come and see it, I had tickets and everything, but some kids sprayed me with a hose and I was iced to the ground for over three weeks.
MTE: That’s horrible.
FS: Oh, it really wasn’t too bad. I like the cold. I just couldn’t move. And it got really boring.
MTE: How did you finally get out?
FS: Hair dryer. I lost part of my bottom ball in the process.

MTE: Sorry about that. Back to Who Killed Santa?, how do you feel about your depiction in the show as a possible murderer of Santa Claus?
FS: I’m okay with it. I’m mean it’s a little outrageous to think that I could possibly be in a situation where I was a suspect in Santa’s death but that’s just it, the stage is a place for extreme storytelling.
MTE: So, you’re not offended by idea of Frosty the Snowman being portrayed as a holiday killer?
FS: Not at all. Not at all. Plenty of famous people have played killers. Look at Collateral. Tom Cruise played a hit-man in that movie and he’s famous and in movies all the time. Frankly, I’m just happy to be in the spotlight again and have my name out there. And I think all the guys- me, Tiny Tim, Drummer Boy, Rudolph, being played by puppets is absolute genius. It really brings a new and hilarious element to the show. I’m going to get a lot more work after this I know it. I hear the guy that plays me–
MTE: Nate Press. He’s a great Milwaukee actor.
FS: Yeah. I hear he’s absolutely fantastic! Just a riot. He’s got my voice down and everything.
MTE: Are you still in contact with Wendy?
FS: Yeah, we talk all the time. She’s doing great. She’s a full grown woman now, y’know. She just called me yesterday. Actually, I called her. I called her and talked to her. She was doing very well. Actually, I left a voice mail. I left it last week. She just hasn’t called back yet. Actually, I’ve called her everyday for the past thirty years and she hasn’t called me back! What gives?! I'll try her again tomorrow.
MTE: Are you sure you have the right number?
FS: Uh...
MTE: Well, thanks for taking time out to talk to me, Frosty, it’s been a delight.
FS: My pleasure.
