As I have been writing about my experiment, an old college friend wrote to me about one of his own experiences. His story is so sweet and an example of a male perspective when it comes to what women want. I loved his story and saw it as a great opportunity to give a man’s perspective on getting the attention of a female. I hope it makes you smile just as it made me. It was my freshman year, and I was enamored with girl "X" who was a sophomore. We were in rehearsals together, we enjoyed talking together, and I was trying to devise an excuse to spend time with her. I was also quite shy and timid about just asking, though that surely would have been the simplest means. Not wanting to get cocky, I purchased only the moderate size box, even though the family size would have been cheaper with a mere swipe of my VIC card. I splurged as well on a carton of organic milk, hoping that my clear concern for her enzyme intake would show just how much I really cared. Bouncing off the walls with anticipation, I drove back to my dorm, summoned my courage and called her. Girl "X": Hello?Taylor: Hi “X”, its Taylor. Remember tonight when we were talking about breakfast cereal.Girl "X": Yeah…? Taylor: Well, I was at Food Lion doing some shopping and I saw a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and I remember that you said you liked it but hadn’t had it for a while so I bought a box and some organic milk and I just wanted to see if maybe you might want to come over and have some. ( I think I really did say all of this in one breath) Girl X: “Oh my God!” I will be right over!! Older and wiser now (maybe), I often think back to that evening and wonder why it worked so well. I think it actually had very little to do with the Cinnamon Toast Crunch itself, as crunchy and tasty as it may be. I think it had much more to do with the fact that I actually listened to what the girl said
One evening, a group of us were discussing breakfast cereals and girl "X" mentioned that she enjoyed Cinnamon Toast Crunch and hadn’t had it in a long time. After rehearsal I went to Food Lion to pick up some groceries, and just happened to go down the cereal aisle. Suddenly inspiration struck in the form of a simple cardboard box: Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
(huh?!), remembered (what?!), and then gave a damn enough to go and do something about it (really?!). Who would have thought it would be so simple…
