Man shot, killed, near Capitol

A man is dead this evening after a routine traffic stop went horribly wrong.
The 35-year-old unidentified armed suspect fled authorities, hitting and injuring a police officer. After refusing to put down his weapon, police opened fire, killing the man.
The incident happened a few blocks from the Capitol where the third day of hearings for Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor were taking place.
Authorities sealed off the area surrounding the Capitol as a precaution; however, it has been determined that the incident is unrelated to the Capitol complex.
