14th Street between D and Constitution Avenue is shut down as are parts of Independence Avenue, SW this afternoon after a gunman walked into the Holocaust museum at 1p.m and opened fire at the entrance.

According to federal sources, the suspect is 89-year-old James Whittaker von Brunn from Maryland. It is understood this afternoon that the assailant has ties with a white supremacy group.
