 There are many environmental events around the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley this month, which present opportunities that might help you move toward your green goals.

In light of your goals, evaluate whether your investment of cost and time in each event will help you in any meaningful way.

1. Green Festival in San Francisco, November 13 – 15

This event is a joint project of Global Exchange and Green America.

Global Exchange is an international and educational human rights organization dedicated to promoting social, economic and environmental justice around the world.

Green America is a non-profit organization that promotes and works to create a socially just and environmentally sustainable society. Green America strives to harness economic power and preserve the Earth—the strength of consumers, investors, businesses and the marketplace—where all people have enough and all communities are healthy and safe.

Learn how Bay Area neighbors, community nonprofits and city departments are working together to make their cities healthier places to live.

The event includes keynote speakers in many green topics and hundreds of exhibits.

2. Clean Tech Open 2009 Awards Gala, San Francisco, November 17

Clean Tech Open is an organization that identifies, mentors and funds initiatives that address today’s most urgent energy, environmental, and economic challenges.
The Cleant Tech Open has established itself as a leader in developing clean technology startup entrepreneurs. Through several programs, the organization provides entrepreneurial training, mentoring and support and partner programs to bring clean and emerging technologies to market.

The gala event will award the 2009 six-finalist teams that will represent the California region at this national award celebration. Finalists will be chosen from six categories. See the Clean Tech Open website for more details. The event includes exposition and speakers.
The event is recommended for any professional interested in viewing the latest clean technologies or for entrepreneurs considering entering the 2010 competition.

3. Sustainovation – Green Eggs Breakfast, November 17, San Mateo, CA

Sustainovation is a part of Conexions, a non-profit Palo Alto, CA based organization. Sustainovation focuses on the long-term well being of the global living system through educating the Silicon Valley business community about how incorporating sustainability principles into strategic decisions can catalyze innovation, present new market opportunities, and produce tangible bottom-line success.

The Green Eggs 2009 Breakfast Forum is a monthly program that includes speakers and, yes, a healthy breakfast. This forum enables sustainability leaders and pioneers to meet. Each gathering has speakers, provides networking opportunities, and attendees meet innovators. You can also gain insight into a particular green sector, share your ideas and even get guidance.

Green Eggs events are hosted by a variety of Bay Area sustainability leaders at their sites.

The November 17 event will be at the San Mateo Public Library, a certified LEED Gold building (LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for its sustainable, energy efficient design. The topic is Building Healthy & Prosperous Communities... a whole community approach.

Several speakers will discuss the San Mateo Library's LEED Gold Certification; Brisbane’s citywide programs; San Carlos’s Climate Action Plan; City of South San Francisco Green X-Ray House Project; and the San Mateo County Sheriff about the Green Jail Program. There will also be a representative form Sustainable San Mateo County.

 TRAINING

While several cities in the San Mateo County, CA are about to implement Green Building Ordinances, becoming a Certified Green Building Professional is not only a great business opportunity but also a necessity in the future.
