E!Online reports that Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee wants to have a congressional resolution securing the permanent praise of Jackson. And the House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, has apparently decided there is no need for one.
Congress may be reluctant to give the singer his due because of his personal history rather than his actual music career. If that is the case however, there may be a double-standard going on in opposition.
After all, stars like Elvis Presley, who also had a problem with drugs and was just as innovative, if not more than Michael Jackson, got his own stamp and a Senate-based resolution congratulating Graceland on its elevation to historical status.
Likewise, Louis Armstrong got his day, as did Johnny Cash and Frank Sinatra. Mind you, Cash and Armstrong were some time ago, but Sinatra was just last year.
What do you think?
