These are my top 10 boxers of all time. I chose them from a list of 50 fighters. The only thing that I considered was the man's record, wins, losses, draws, and K.O.'s. I deliberately disregarded several factors because I believe in the KISS principle, Keep It Simple Stupid.
I gave no regard to the era in which the man fought, his weight class, or how popular he might have been with fight fans. I did, however, notice the amazing number of fights three of these men engaged in.
I admit that I am not qualified as a judge of the pugilistic art of boxing. My experience in the “Sweet Science” is limited to a few bar brawls, several street fights which always devolved into wrestling matches, and one refereed boxing match which was called after 30 seconds when my opponent dislocated his shoulder.
The list is in the order of best to least best.
1.Rocky Marciano: 49-0 43 K.O.'s
2.Gene Tunney: 80-1-3
48 K.O.'s
3.Joe Louis: 36-3-1
25 K.O.'s
4.Marvin Hagler: 62-3-2 52 K.O.'s
5.Willie Pep: 229-11-1
65 K.O.'s
6.Jimmy Wilde: 137-5-2 99 K.O.'s
7.George Foreman: 76-5 68 K.O.'s
8.Thomas Hearns: 61-5-1 48 K.O.'s
9.Muhammad Ali: 56-5
37 K.O.'s
10.Joe Gans: 147-11-17
96 K.O.'s
