Broward County has a myriad of activities planned for the Fourth of July weekend. From Coral Springs, to Plantation, to Pembroke Pines, to Miramar, there are enough events that even the truly picky will have plenty to spark their interest.
Adults interested in a slightly more refined experience than the typical barbecue can attend one of several wine tastings being held in several Fort Lauderdale area cities this weekend. The City of Plantation maintains that old-fashioned tradition by hosting their annual 4th of July parade. Beginning at 9:00 am, the parade route runs along Broward Boulevard from NW 46th Avenue westward to NW 69th Avenue, terminating at City Hall. Later that evening, Groove Line band performs at the Central Park Ball Fields, followed by fireworks at 9:00 pm.

Davie residents can beat the heat at the City’s free “Family Splash Pool Party”, featuring a DJ, military equipment show, country music, and play equipment for the kids, all at Pine Island Park. Fireworks begin at 9:00 pm here as well.
The truly health-conscious can participate in a Weston’s annual 5K Run/Walk at 7:00 am, or head to the beach for activities hosted by the cities of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, and Pompano Beach. History buffs will want to take advantage of The Bonnet House’s half price admission for adults and free admission for children under 12 on Saturday the fourth. This is their “Family Day” promotion, and will be offered again on Saturday, July 18. Normally, adult admission is $20.00, and children ages 6 – 12 are $16.00, so this is a great opportunity for families hit by the slow economy.
Shoppers will love the bargain of half price admission to Flamingo Gardens’ 4th of July Bazaar, starting at 9:30 am and running through 4:30 pm. Ages 12 and up will pay $8.50, while 4 – 11 pay only $4.25. This leaves plenty left over for browsing the bazaar booths (many of whom are indoors in the air conditioning this year). Some of the items for sale include pottery, art glass, jewelry, dolls, watches, sports collectibles, and T-shirts/ tank tops. At 11:00 am, the new handicapped accessible playground will be christened and opened to the public, after which George and Martha Washington will pose for pictures with attendees.
Regardless of which event residents choose to attend, safety precautions should always be observed. The Sun-Sentinel describes some of the Broward Sheriff’s Office fireworks safety tips in their recent article, and as always, without exception, residents are reminded to never drink and drive.
