Change can be difficult. A change in diet often requires a change in lifestyle.
Not planning for that change can cause stress. Save yourself the trouble and prepare for your lifestyle changes with these 8 diet success tips.

1. Drink water. Buy a reusable bottle and sip throughout the day. Sometimes hunger is mistaken for thirst. Drinking 6-8 8oz cups of water daily will help you feeling full keeping the munchies at bay.

2. Chew sugar-free gum. Chewing gum can help satisfy a sweet tooth and put a stop to walk-by-snacking at the office of during dinner clean-up.

3. Clean out the pantry. You can’t snack on potato chips if you don’t have them in the house. Collect the candy, chocolate bars, and cookies and pitch them. Some parents will buy sweet treats for their children. Take the opportunity to set a good example by snacking on popcorn, veggies, or cheese instead.

4. Stock up on healthy snacks. Snacks are your friend. They give you energy between meals and help bridge your hunger. Snacking may prevent over-indulging at your next meal.

5. Plan your meals. This tip requires a little more work but the pay-off is significant. Making a healthy food choice is easier when done ahead of time rather than right before you eat when you’re hungry. Peer pressure and temptation seem less appealing knowing a meal that’s easy on the waistline is waiting.

6. Plan for protein. Protein has endurance for the long haul. The body takes longer to digest protein helping you to stay fuller for a longer period of time. Try snacking on cottage cheese, shrimp cocktail, or beef jerky for lasting protein power.

7. Eat good fat. Healthy fats like the kind found in fish, nuts, and avocados are a great source of nutrition. They can lower cholesterol and slow down the digestion process. Allowing food to digest more slowly helps prevent spikes in blood sugar levels which can encourage hunger and food cravings.

8. Think complex carbohydrates. Complex carbs like the ones found in whole grain breads, cereals, and pastas are fantastic sources of fiber. Whole grains will help keep you feeling full.
