Human art, as in art made by a human being... with a human being. It appears the latest trend in the art world, or at least in the Houston art scene, is to create art using human remains. Not kidding.
During saturday's Art Crawl, I found myself rushing through Mother Dog Studios to witness Wayne Gilbert's unique pieces. All I knew was to keep an eye out for the most popular M. I had no idea what to expect. And although the idea have me the chills, I simply had to see for myself.
At first glance, Gilbert's pieces look like sand collages. However the artist tag reveals much more including the names of people whose remains are at the heart of his creations: " I am trying to convey a kinship with the public as well as all humans through our shared mortality".

Then, I came across another interesting discovery. Mexican artist Gabriel de la Mora makes drawings inspired by interviews with blind students using human hair. His show entitled Blind Lines opens at Sicardi Gallery on December 2, 2008.
Enjoy!
