Canton Township, Mich., police look over the scene, Thursday, July 9, 2009 where an Amtrak passenger train carrying about 150 people struck a car at a road crossing near Detroit killing all five people in the sedan, authorities said. On Thursday afternoon, 5 people were killed when they were hit by an Amtrak train after their vehicle attempted to drive around a crossing gate in Canton Township, Mich.

The youngest victim, Jessica Sadler, was only 14-years-old and was staying with her grandmother who lived nearby the crash scene.

According to the Free Press, the four others who died in the vehicle were Jessica’s boyfriend, Eddie Gross, 18; brothers Sean Harris, 19, and Terrence Harris, 21; and a fifth victim who was 20-years-old male, but was not identified.

Wayne County Medical Examiner, Sgt. Mark Gajeski said the crash pushed the car for about a mile down the tracks.

No one on the Amtrak train was injured and there are no indications there was any sort of malfunction on the train prior to the collision.
