Alaskan governor, Sarah Palin, announced she will resign her office in just a few weeks according to The Washington Times. This has fueled speculation that she will seek the Republican Party presidential nomination in 2012.
She made the announcement from her Wasilla, Alaska home with Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, who will be sworn into the office of governor at the end of the month.
Palin would not elaborate regarding her future plans and would not take questions from the media.
According to the Anchorage Daily News, Palin’s political action campaign sent out emails seeking contributions from supporters to boost her fund raising totals prior to the June 30 reporting deadline to the Federal Election Commission.
Spokesperson for the Palin campaign, Meghan Stapleton wrote in the emails, “With your help, we can take the governor’s message and encourage others who also have hope and are firmly rooted in the conservative belief that you know best how to spend your money and not your government.”
