According to Chuck Henry of NBC 4 in Los Angeles, Debbie Rowe wants custody of the two children she had with the late pop star, Michael Jackson.
In a 90-minute phone conversation with Henry on Thursday morning, Rowe reportedly said, “I want my children.”
She is willing to submit to DNA and psychological testing, and will seek a restraining order to keep Joe Jackson, Jackson’s father, away from the children.
Rowe was married to Jackson in 1996, and filed for divorce three years later. She surrendered her parental rights at the time, but an appeals court later found an error in the process. She and Jackson entered into a private settlement regarding custody in 2006.
“I am stepping up. I have to,” Rowe said.
Rowe is the mother of Jackson’s two eldest children, Michael Joseph, Jr., 12, and Paris Michael Katherine, 11. The mother of Jackson’s youngest child, Prince Michael II has not been identified.
Rowe said she was concerned about splitting up the three children, but would be willing to accept custody of Prince Michael II if the court would allow her to do so.
Jackson’s mother, Katherine, was given temporary custody of the children pending a court hearing on Monday. She was named the guardian of the children in Jackson’s 2002 will filed in court on Wednesday.
Rowe was left out of any inheritance as the will states, “I have intentionally omitted to provide for my former wife, Deborah Jean Rowe Jackson.” To read the will, click here.
Eric George, Rowe’s attorney, will be representing her at the custody hearing on Monday, according to the Los Angeles Times.
