Police ask DEA to join investigation into Michael Jackson’s death

A Washington law enforcement official has told the Los Angeles Times that the Los Angeles Police Department has asked the Drug Enforcement Administration to join the investigation into the death of Michael Jackson.

The official spoke to the Times on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the investigation. The official said the DEA was asked to step in because they have resources and knowledge of illicit drug manufacturers, also known as “pill mills,” according to the Times.

The DEA will examine the doctors involved in the case and determine whether they are registered with the federal agency to prescribe drugs.

The agency will also try to find the source of the drugs that doctors prescribed for Jackson or his associates to determine if a trafficking pattern existed.
