The California Department of Corrections distributed a mug shot of famed music mogul and convicted murderer Phil Spector on Wednesday.
Deputy press secretary for the department, Gordon Hinkle said the photo was given to news media and social networking sites including Twitter because the department has a policy of transparency when it comes to public information.
The mug shot was taken on June 5 and shows a bald Spector, who is known for appearing in court with elaborate and unusual hairstyles. Spector’s wife Rachelle had suggested her husband’s hair was his own.

“They took my husband’s freedom and dignity. So why not his hair? This is a personal matter. But in case you don’t know, they don’t allow for much accessorizing while in prison,” said Rachelle.
Spector was convicted of second-degree murder for the 2003 shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson in his Alhambra mansion and sentenced to 19 years in prison. Spector had two trials, with the first ending in a deadlocked jury.
