Fort Hood Shooting: Report says alleged gunman Nidal Malik Hasan tried to contact al-Qaeda
The Army psychiatrist accused of killing 13 and wounding dozens of others at a military base on Thursday, was known to U.S. intelligence agencies for possible ties to terrorism organizations.
ABC News reports that Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan tried to make contact with al-Qaeda just months before the horrific shooting that stunned the nation.
According to YNetNews.com, it is not known whether the military was made aware of Hasan’s contacts. In addition, Congress requested that CIA director, Leon Panetta, and Director of National Intelligence, Dennis Blair, maintain all intelligence information related to Hasan close to the vest.
On Sunday, it was reported that Hasan had attended a Virginia mosque at the same time that several 9/11 terrorist hijackers also attended the place of worship in 2001.
Tuesday, the victims of the Fort Hood shooting will be memorialized at a ceremony that President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are scheduled to attend. To view live coverage of tomorrow’s memorial, click here.
