On Saturday, June 6th, 2009, a group of DC Salseros also known as DC Salseros for the Cure united among more than 50,000 people at the National Mall in Washington, DC for one common cause: to join in the fight against breast cancer.
The DC Salseros team, organized by Parker Cocolo raised over $4,000 for the cause in part by hosting an event at The Salsa Room (TSR) in Arlington, VA. The “Fight Against Breast Cancer” event at TSR was very successful featuring a live band, Salsaley and a performance by DC’s ClaveKazi dance team.
Over 227 people RSVP’d on Meetup.com. The event got great reviews such as the one from Hildi, “Salsa for a Cure! Great to see so many people come out to support this cause,” and Luis Gryar, “Loved the event and the reason for it, to have fun and to contribute...”
The Race for the Cure event on June 6th, 2009 marked the 20th running sponsored by Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure. This year, the organization became formally known as the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure because starting this year, 25% of the proceeds will address breast cancer incidence and mortality globally outside the U.S. with culturally sensitive education and outreach programs.
