Denver gelato cafe food allergy friendly
For many with food allergies eating ice cream out of the home is not always a safe option. This is due to concerns around cross-contamination. Cross-contamination is when a "safe" product comes in contact with an allergen therefore making it unsafe. This can happen through shared utensils which is often the case with ice cream parlors. The ice cream scooper can go from one ice cream flavor to another which can cross-contaminate a "safe" flavor. This can also occur with toppings. In addition, toppings can accidentally land on ice cream while they are being poured on the cone or into the cup.
Recently the Denver Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Walk committee (FAAN) held a fundraiser at Gelazzi - gelato Italiano cafe. I thought if they were hosting it there they must feel it is food allergy freindly. What a pleasant surprise.
