Thanksgiving is here and so begins the joyous and sometimes treacherous holiday season. Get ready for overcrowded shops, nightly television specials, heavier traffic and mounting credit card debt. It’s the most wonderfully hectic five months of the year. Here are ten songs to help get you through the Turkey Day blues.
Turn up the volume, put down the windows, put your foot on the brake and get ready inch your way down the Mass Pike. This song will make the first five minutes pain free.
“Too Much Food” – Jason Mraz
Battling a food coma after feeding on all that turkey, stuffing and pie is futile when the tryptophan kicks in, but don’t let those super tight pants stop you from enjoying it. Three words: elastic waist band.
They may be Brits, but this delicate ballad was one of the first songs Robert Plant wrote for Led Zeppelin and it just so happens to address being grateful for having someone who puts up with all of your B.S. Now that’s something to be thankful for.

“Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground” – The White Stripes
This time of year in New England, the trees are bare and dead leaves are everywhere. Pile them up and dive in with your little ones. It never gets old, just don’t forget to move the rake.
A jam band has never sounded so pessimistic. Flying sucks, especially during the holidays. Moe. shares how to get your head right.
“Young Pilgrims” – The Shins
When we were kids we learned that The Pilgrims held the first Thanksgiving at Plymouth. Turns out that might have been wrong, which makes me right. My first grade teacher Mrs. Clutterbuck was a liar. See mom, I never stole that chalk.
“Harvest Moon” – Neil Young
Americans must not write good Thanksgiving songs, but a Canuck singing about romance under the full autumn moon never sounded so sweet, and if you didn’t know Thanksgiving is said to have come from celebrating a plentiful harvest

“Sweet Thursday” – Matt Costa
We perform our Thanksgiving rituals on every fourth Thursday of November with a big bird, football and if you play your cards right, Tupperware full of leftovers.
“Have a Drink On Me” – AC/DC
Local news always runs the story about how Thanksgiving's Eve is the biggest bar night of the year. With no hope for an economic turnaround, you better thank your lucky stars if you hear this more than once..
So what if it’s about Johnny Boy and Yoko kicking their dirty heroin habit. Cold turkey is what you will be eating for a week after Thanksgiving. Try it with stuffing and cranberry jam on a roll Hot Tomatoes style.
