It's your child's first time away at summer camp---Does she have everything she'll need? Helping your child pack for sleepover camp is the first step to affirming her confidence and minimizing the potential for homesickness.

Take it from some campers who learned the hard way. Veteran campers from Project Morry, a superb residential summer camp experience dedicated to giving inner-city children enriching learning opportunities, have learned what is a "must-have" for making the camp experience comfortable, familiar and fun!

An informal survey of Project Morry’s “veteran” campers offers suggestions on “What to Pack for Summer Camp.”  We thought you and your readers might find this list helpful in preparing your child for camp and making this the best summer ever.

What to Pack for Summer Camp
  • Bring lots of paper to write letters home about the fun you are having at camp.
  • You might need warm clothes, because campgrounds can get chilly at night!
  • Take a pillow to remind you of your own bed at home.
  • Hang some pictures of your family in your bunk.
  • Pack plenty of sun screen, because many camp activities are in the bright sunshine!
  • A flashlight comes in handy in the dark woods!
  • Don’t forget a camera to take pictures of all your new camp friends!
For more info: Project Morry is a nonprofit, year-round youth development organization, anchored by a residential summer camp with an educational focus. The children, for whom these experiences would not otherwise be available, benefit from a network of support and gain increased social skills, enhanced self-esteem, positive core values and a greater sense of personal responsibility. With year-round support, young people are guided through a critical period in their academic and social development. In schools and communities where fewer than 50% of incoming ninth graders graduate from high school, 100% of the young people who have completed the Project Morry program have completed high school on time and have graduated to pursue higher education, military service or join the workforce as responsible citizens.
