Artist Amy Kuhl Cox's air, land and water quilt

Artist Amy Kuhl Cox, a former Montessori teacher, is turning her love of Montessori into beautiful handmade quilts suitable for use as a beautiful wall hanging or as a hands-on science or geography activity in Montessori classrooms or at home.

Air, Land and Water Quilt

This unique handmade quilt captures an organic landscape of a stream, lake, forest, grasslands, mountains, and sky. In a Montessori classroom, children are exposed to the concepts of air, land and water in a variety of ways so that a child may explore and learn about the natural world around him. The air, land and water quilt comes with animal figurines which the child can place on the area of the quilt where the animal would be found in its’ natural habitat. Not only will a child understand the concepts of air, land and water, but will also learn the names of the animals and most importantly, develop a natural curiosity to seek out these elements in his real world.

Artist Amy Kuhl Cox's world map quilt

World Map Quilt

The Montessori geography materials aim to create an interest in the physical world outside of the child’s own, by creating an awareness of the fact that people, animals, habitats, landscapes and cultures vary all over the world. This beautiful world map quilt is an artistic replica of the Montessori world puzzle map used in classrooms all over the world and comes with 21 different animals whose native home is on one of the 7 continents. Children will be natural drawn to work with this quilt; placing the animals on the correct continent, learning the names of the continents, researching more about the animals and interested to learn more about other parts of the world.
