We all know by now that the judge determined Lake Lanier was not meant to be used as a water resource for Atlanta. When we interviewed Matt Lapina on our LakeFront Radio Show: Corps of Engineers Interview He discussed the planned uses for Lake Lanier and drinking water was not one of them. Very interesting information in this interview~

Atlanta may have to figure out other resources for water if Georgia cannot convince Congress that they need that water or that they have the right to that water.
Here is what I think. If Atlanta does not use Lake Lanier we may actually see higher water levels in this Lake. Even with the water that is sent down to Florida and Alabama for their needs, we should still have plenty to keep our levels up, assuming we do not go thru another really rough drought.
We must look into building of reservoirs and tapping into the Tennessee Water that supposedly is ours from way back in time. These are tough and expensive decisions, but in the LONG run it will be good for all concerned.
Here is another good thing....WATER conservation. We started to learn a valuable lesson with this drought forcing the issue. We were spoiled all these years and once we started conserving water and thinking smarter, we really saw a big change in water usage. But as soon as the drought was deemed to be over, I know many people went back to their bad water usage habits. We must continue conserving water...PERIOD. This is an ongoing process or it should be.
It has been over 20 years with this water war on Lake Lanier and the only way it will be resolved is by COMPROMISE...Yes that nasty word, but whatever we have been doing over the past 20 years as Dr. Phil would say....How has that been working for US? Not well at all~
So let us not continue with the status quo and let's get this 20 year battle in the rear view window once and for all .....What do you think?
