Cats are unique, and can require unique care. While small animal veterinarians are typically very experienced in both dog and cat health care, there are times when cats require a specialist. Cat clinics are also convenient for cat owners who want to limit their pets' stress during health care visits. These clinics can make a cat's overnight stay more comfortable because they provide quiet environments compared to those which board dogs.

Many of the veterinarians who work in cat clinics are extremely dedicated to cat health. The Cat Clinic and Hospital in downtown, Pittsburgh, has recently celebrated its 29th anniversary providing veterinary care for cats.
