Johns to head Langham Creek HS
Cheryl Johns, the principal at Labay Middle School, has been named the principal at Langham Creek High School in the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, the district announced this week.
Johns replaces Tom Strother, who is retiring at the end of the 2008-2009 school year.
Johns has 26 years of experience in public education. She began her career at Klein High School in Klein ISD before moving to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in 1986 as a speech and debate teacher at Cypress Creek High School. She transferred to Cypress Falls High School as a teacher prior to being promoted to the position of director of instruction at Truitt Middle School in 1995. In 2001, she transferred to Jersey Village High School, where she served as director of instruction for one year before moving to associate principal. In February 2005, she took over as principal at Labay.
“While trying to fill my friend Tom Strother’s shoes is somewhat intimidating, I am excited about the opportunity to return to high school,” Johns said in a news release. “My reception at Langham Creek this week was truly warm and welcoming and I look forward to learning about and experiencing the wonderful Lobo traditions”
Johns received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and her master’s and doctorate degrees in education from the University of Houston. Her certifications include Secondary Speech (6-12), Secondary Spanish (6-12), Mid-management Administrator (PK-12), Supervisor (PK-12) and Superintendent (EC-12).
