For years, professional cyclists have been trying to beat Lance Armstrong. Now, a professional actress will try to be Armstrong.

Actress Anna Deavere Smith is portraying the seven-time Tour de France champion in "Let Me Down Easy" a one-woman play at New York City's Second Stage Theater. Smith will also play a bull rider and doctors in the play, which explores how people deal with dying.

"I think that 'Let Me Down Easy' allows people to have another kind of debate ... about how we live and, as the title is 'Let Me Down Easy,' how we die," Smith told Reuters.

The Reuters report states that Armstrong talks about competitiveness as an athlete and the drive to beat cancer.

"The motivation's failure, 'cause failure's death," Smith says, quoting Armstrong, meaning the motivation is to avoid failure, while portraying the Texan.

Smith, according to www.imdb.com, was nominated for two 1994 Tony Awards Best Actress, Play and Author of the Best Play. She also had parts in films such as "Dave" and "The American President" and on TV's "The West Wing."
