On Sunday July 5th, the Sel de la Terre, Long Wharf location hosted the “Battle of the Burger” contest. Locals had the chance to submit their favorite burger recipes and guests who dined at the restaurant on “Slider Sunday” had the chance to vote for the best burger. The votes are in and the winner is Joseph Stein with his recipe for the "Tomato Chutney Turkey Burger with Smoked Mozzarella."

Today his winning burger is on the menu with "Joseph Stein winner of the SDLT Burger Battle" displayed for all to see and taste. His burger is priced at $14, similar to the other signature house burger. What is most exciting about his burger, beside its flavors, is the story about him.

Joseph Stein is a Financial Analyst in Boston, a competitive cyclist, and avid outdoorsman. He is not a trained chef but is a “self-described Food Network junky.” It was the first cooking competition he had ever entered in! What makes his burger so tasty is the homemade tomato chutney that it is served with. It was such a big hit with diners at the Burger Battle and his friends and family that he might even consider bottling and selling it!

Although he is not an experienced professional chef, he definitely does his share of cooking and even brewing his own beer. For now he enjoys cooking casually for friends and family but this just might push him towards pursuing cooking school. He said he “tends to lean towards locally-produced, organic produce wherever possible – including supporting local CSAs.” His favorite dishes include “roasted root vegetables, homemade breads, pickles, and pies from freshly harvested fruits and vegetables.” Congratulations Joseph Stein for your burger creation. Sel de le Terre guests will surely be lucky to try your winning recipe all month long!
