Incoming students at Georgetown University are often presented with a list of 101 things they need to do before they graduate. High on that on that list is to try the Chicken Madness at Wisemiller's Deli, fondly known as Wisey's. Having graduated from Georgetown, the Chicken Madness was a staple of my diet for four years, but now that I work in the area, I have graduated to other items at what is still my trusted lunch spot.

Oh, the Chicken Madness is certainly not to be missed – chicken, bacon, provolone, onions, garlic and hot and sweet peppers, all grilled together on a toasted sub with lettuce, tomato and mayo – but over the years I've found that there is almost nothing on the menu that's not worth trying at least once. Personal favorites are a grilled cheese on wheat bread or the Hoya Wrap – hot turkey, cheddar, lettuce, tomato and honey mustard – but nearly everything is good. Most sandwiches are less than $7, and if you either are a college student or still live like one, you can pick up essentials like cereal, canned soup, ice cream, and of course beer while you're there.

Wisey's is a tradition for Georgetown students, but tucked away on 36th and N Streets, I'm not sure that it gets that much non-GU traffic. That should change, and to that end the owner recently opened a recently opened a sister store on Wisconsin Avenue more geared toward the M Street shopping crowd with its salads, paninis, espresso, and smoothies. Students lovingly refer to it as "Healthy Wisey's" and are glad to see it still serves the old favorites like the Chicken Madness. At the new Wisey’s, you’ll also see a pleasant seating area instead of the rows of convenience-store essentials at the original.

Even though my days living on campus are over, I still frequent Wisey's at least a couple of times a week. Luckily for me, it isn't an expensive habit. Whether it's for a sandwich or just a chocolate chip cookie (these fresh-baked cookies are highly addictive), I always know I'm getting my money's worth.
