Anime Expo has been around since 1992. It is one of the largest anime conventions in the U.S. It is a place for anime fans, otakus, cosplayers, crossdressers and furries to unite in their love for all things anime. All types of costuming are welcome, but if it has to do with anything in the Jpop (Japanese pop) or anime world be prepared to get asked for your picture… or a glomp (surprise attack tackle hug).

Anime Expo 2009 is being held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on July 2 - 5. Tickets are still on sale for pre-registration and will be sold each day of AX. If you wish to purchase a pre-reg ticket you can go to the Anime Expo 2009 site. If you wear a costume, there are rules. For example, no naughty bits. They try and keep it PG-13 and below. Keep in mind that AX is for all ages. If you have a weapon/prop to go with your costume you will have to have it peace-tied and approved by AX staff.

There are many exhibits, special guests and interactive events at AX. Some of the exhibitors at Anime Expo ’09 will be Anime Jungle, Bang Zoom! Entertainment, Crunchyroll, Lolita Kisama, Mr. Toast, Pawstar, Yaoi Press, and Yaoi-Con. These exhibitors will be selling their products. Some, such as Pawstar, makes custom items. AX special guests include Daisuke Ishiwatari (game developer for Guilty Gear), Voice actors Toshiyuki Morikawa and Kari Wahlgren (Haruko from FLCL), founder of Yaoi Press Yamilia Abraham, and Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken’s Mike Fasolo, Douglas Goldstein, Seth Green, and Mike McFarland! A few of the events include the Game Arcade, the 6pm – 2am dances, and the Chibi Masquerade.

So, if you love dressing up as a character or just want to have some fun, enjoy Anime Expo 2009 this weekend.
