Today: June 2, 2009
West Hollywood Park Auditorium
647 North San Vicente Blvd, WeHo, 6:30-8:30 PM
The Lesbian & Gay Advisory Board presents a free community event, open to the public celebrating the 40th anniversary of Stonewall. For those of you who don’t know, Stonewall was an incredible series of demonstrations that occurred after the raid of a gay bar in New York, the Stonewall Inn. On June 28, 1969, the gay rights movement officially began in the United States, and around the world. People, who were fed up with being ridiculed, harassed, arrested, and jailed for their sexual orientation stood up to those who were oppressing them, and literally said, “No more!”
Come meet four pioneers who lived the history, Jeanne Cordova, mark Thompson, Don Kilhefner, and Lilian Faderman, moderated by Advisory Board Co-Chairs Ivy Bottini and Dan Berkowitz. This presentation will include photos and film clips.
There will also be a discussion with activists Mike Ai & & Sara Pollaro (Equal Roots Coalition) and Sonny Patouhas & Jordan Rada (LGBT Allies/Woodbury Univ).
This event will be telecast live on the West Hollywood City TV channel.
