The holidays are a time of celebration with loved ones, and it is the time when many of us take vacations with our families, visit friends or explore the world. Travel can be stressful or enjoyable depending on how we manage the various stimulus coming into our world. Holiday travel has its specific set of stressors such as traffic jams, delays, missed connections, missing luggage, illness and the consequences that come with these issues. Domestic and international travel have varying stressors related to airline check-ins, customs, financial issues and language barriers. These are just a few possibilities. No matter the mode of transportation and how exotic the destination, here are 10 tips to help you effectively manage holiday stress when on vacation or traveling.

Physical Well-Being

4. Smile and laugh often. Greet the day with enthusiasm. Believe all is well and events will be filled with joy and laughter. Walk lightly. Whistle a happy tune. Give yourself permission to be silly. 5. Appreciate your gifts and be grateful for your blessings. Unwrap the gifts of the day with awe and eagerness like they are presents as they are presented to you in the moment, the present. Feel gratitude for the blessings of the day to bring more of the same in abundance. 6. Choose your thoughts wisely. Think of desired outcomes. Surround yourself with pleasant and joyful people. Visualize a smooth, calming and productive day. Dream big and imagine living your heart's desires to the fullest. Focus on desired consequences of decisions made with clarity of thought and reverence for all concerned. Choose only thoughts that energize you. Be mindful of your thoughts. If a thought begins to irritate you, stop yourself instantly and replace it with more productive and joyful thought. 10. Lend a hand when your spirit compels you to reach out. Charity given returns to the sender a hundredfold. This can come in a form of a smile genuinely given, time to listen and share experience,advice or labor of love as needed.
