Get your wedding photographed your way

You dream of reliving the fairy tale over and over again.

The ceremony. Details of the bridal gown. The first dance.

And you can. Through your wedding photos.

Part 12 of this series dealing with wedding planning in the Fullerton, CA. area touches on the subject of finding the right wedding photographer for your special day. Joel Eckman Maus of Studio EMP in Fullerton gives helpful advice for couples everywhere planning their special day. Whether you live in the Fullerton area or not, this article is for you if you need to find a wedding photographer!

You want great photos. That's a given.

Booking a photographer for your wedding day is something that requires careful consideration. Investigating. Asking questions. Trusting your instinct. If you want great photos for your special day, read this advice before you hire the photographer that is right for you.

  • Liking the personality of the photographer is huge.

Do you "click" with the photographer when you meet him or her? Do they seem easy to get along with? Eckman Maus will often tell prospective clients that this is key and should be the first thing they look for when interviewing photographers since they will be spending a good portion of your day with you and your mate.

  • Do you like the photographer's style?

This should be the second thing you look for after getting a feel of the photographer's personality.

"Do you really like their work?" Eckman Maus says. "You don't want to be unhappy with your photos once the day is over with."

  • Get a referral.

Word-of-mouth referrals are a wonderful way to know that you will get quality service. If you trust the person giving the referral, check out the photographer!

  • Let the photographer know if you want to get specific shots.

Since photographers are not mind readers, let them know if you really want a certain shot, such as a shot of the bride and groom with all of their extended family members or one of the bride with her former sorority sister who's not in the wedding party. Eckman Maus suggests that if you want these shots to have a friend or family member act as a photo coordinator and stand with the photographer until the necessary photos are taken to make sure that everyone needed is in the photos.

  • Is your photographer a true professional?

Eckman Maus will stay at a reception until the end around 70-80 percent of the time to get all the shots to truly capture your day without charging extra. Take the time to look at the little things a photographer does that show true professionalism in their business.

This check list only scratches the surface of things to look for when searching for a photographer. Happy searching! Please let me know if any of these suggestions helped you find a great photographer!
