Out with the old, in with the new. As we previously reported, Frank Gehry was dismissed from the goings-on at Atlantic Yards. Ellerbe Becket was to take over designing the Nets stadium, with a less-than-impressive rendering as evidence (right). Well, the latest news is that SHoP Architects has been selected to guide the design efforts.
The New York Observer speculated that this might be a "face saving move" for developer Forest City Ratner. However. SHoP has no experience designing stadiums, but they have created notable designs such as that for Southstreet Seaport, a pedistrian bridge and the East River Waterfront esplanade.
